Programs Your Donations Support

Last summer we launched our first Community Grant Initiative, seeking innovative approaches to address the unmet needs of grieving children. Proposals came to us from all over the Northwest, and after a lengthy review process by SCF staff and an independent evaluation team our board awarded grants to three organizations:

Our Tree House – launching a grief support group specifically for high school students in the Bellingham area.

Northwest Outward Bound School – challenging grieving teens through outdoor adventures designed to build confidence and trust.

Grief Place – building a bi-lingual grief support program for Spanish-speaking youngsters.

Based on last year’s successful launch of our Community Grant Initiative, we will repeat the process in 2016. Following an initial review of applications in May, we have narrowed the field to 4 finalists competing for 2 grants of up to $12,500 each. Other changes from last year’s request for proposal include:

  1. Limiting the geographic scope to the Puget Sound region (Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Kitsap, Jefferson, and Island Counties) and
  2. Focusing the grant process on children from low income families, specifically on programs targeting non-English speaking populations.

These community grants will advance our vision to help youth safely navigate loss, rediscover their joy, and emerge as emotionally healthy and resilient members of their families and communities.
