The Safe Crossings Foundation mission is to be a leader in funding services that help grieving children heal. Our vision is that all kids who’ve lost a loved one receive the emotional support they need.
Safe Crossings Foundation (SCF) is dedicated to helping grieving children who have lost a parent, sibling, or other loved one to heal and thrive. By researching and funding leading-edge grief recovery programs in the Puget Sound region, we provide resources to help kids safely navigate loss, rediscover their joy, and emerge as emotionally healthy and resilient members of their families and communities.
This video tells the stories of two different families who’ve experienced support through The Healing Center, Safe Crossings Program and Camp Erin-King County, just a few of the programs that we are able to fund due to the generosity of our donors.
Dedicated to Helping Grieving Kids Heal & Thrive
SCF supports grieving children in the most effective ways possible by taking a big-picture approach to analyzing community needs, resources and gaps in services. We address these issues on three different levels:
Through our generous donor community, SCF is able to fund numerous programs that have a profound impact on helping kids heal. We ease the fundraising burden for these programs; find and fill gaps in service through this funding; and ensure that families can access support at little to no cost.
Services we fund include:
- Individual counseling
- Support groups
- Art therapy
We provide education for counselors and volunteers who work with grieving children, which allows them to learn and grow without losing focus of their most important job: helping kids get better.
Educational support we fund includes:
- Hosting the annual Northwest Conference on Childhood Grief
- Sponsoring workshops for counselors
- Providing educational presentations to the general public
Many kids cannot access grief services simply because of where they live. We work to ensure that grieving children have support even when a counselor isn’t available in their area.
Resources we fund include:
- Books to help parents guide their children through the grief process
- Training for educators to support grieving students
- Website to identify available grief services and educational articles for kids and parents
