Success at 2nd Northwest Conference on Childhood Grief

Thanks to funding from our generous donors, Safe Crossings Foundation offered the second Northwest Conference on Childhood Grief on February 5th & 6th. Present were over 100 therapists, counselors, nurses, teachers, and other practitioners in the field from all over the Northwest.

Donna Schuurman from the Dougy Center inspired the audience as the keynote speaker. She discussed key concepts and models related to grief and trauma, how they inform our responses, as well as core elements from research and practice-based evidence.

Other topics included special therapy camps for youth, art projects, classroom curricula, drama techniques and mindfulness practices – all designed to help children and their families cope with the loss of a loved one. The conference closed Saturday afternoon with a reminder by Beverly Goldsmith and Ross Robinson who encouraged the audience to take care of themselves as they take care of others.
