The symposium will take place at Pacific Tower in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington.

Directions & Parking
There are multiple entrances and parking garages on the Pacific Tower grounds. Please review the directions below to help you navigate to and park at the campus (important note: do not park in the Pacific Medical Clinic Garage on the east side of campus right off of 14th – see below). Parking rates are not included in registration. Please visit http://pactower.org/directions/ for more information.
TRANSIT
Metro bus routes 36 and 60 stop right at the tower. Light Rail stops at Beacon Hill Transit Center. From there you can take Metro bus 36 northbound towards the tower.
FROM THE NORTH VIA I-5 SOUTHBOUND
Take the James Street exit (165A) and turn left on James. Continue east on James and turn right on Boren Avenue. Then turn right on 12th Avenue. Continue on 12th over the Jose Rizal Bridge to Pacific Tower. Turn right on 14th.
Stay to the right and turn right at the drive AFTER the tower. Go past the flag circle and park in the West garage. If the garage is full, or for disabled parking, continue onto 12th taking a right, and turn right into the driveway on the north side of the garage and park in the surface lot on the north side of the tower. Do not park in the Pacific Medical Clinic Garage on the east side of campus right off of 14th.
FROM THE SOUTH VIA I-5 NORTHBOUND
Take Exit 164A for I-90 E and Dearborn/James Streets. Keep left at the first fork, toward Dearborn/James, and then keep right for Dearborn. Turn right on Dearborn. Then turn left on Rainier Avenue S. Take the first left onto S. Weller Street. Turn left on 12th Avenue S. Continue on 12th over the Jose Rizal Bridge to Pacific Tower.

FROM WEST SEATTLE
Head east over the West Seattle Bridge/Spokane Street. Take ramp to Columbian Way S. toward Columbian Way/15th Ave S. (East). Turn left at the first light onto S. Spokane Street). Turn left again at next light (one small block) onto 15th Avenue South. Continue north and turn left on to S. Atlantic Street. Turn right onto 14th S.
After you pass S. Judkins on the south edge of the campus, turn left at the drive BEFORE the tower. Go past the flag circle and park in the West garage. If the garage is full, or for disabled parking, continue onto 12th taking a right, and turn right into the driveway on the north side of the garage and park in the surface lot on the north side of the tower. Non-Credit Events // CE credit is not offered for registration, board meetings, meal functions, and breaks.
Note // Please bring your professional license information because it is recommended when you submit the forms. Don’t forget to turn in your CEU packet at the end of the conference. There will be a box available after the closing session.

Details // Seven clock hours have been approved for the symposium. The cost is $2.00 per clock hour.
Process // Please be prepared for the following on the day of the event:
- Each applicant must sign-in for SPS clock hours at the beginning of the conference.
- Pick up a Clock Hour Form and an SPS Evaluation.
- At the end of the day, turn in the Clock Hour Form, SPS Evaluation and $14.00 ($2.00 x 7.0 clock hours) check made payable to Myrna Muto (the Career & Technical Education Guidance Specialist for Seattle Schools).
- You will then receive a signed copy of the form for your records.If you do not have a check:
- Turn in the Clock Hour Form and SPS Evaluation at the end of the day.

Cancellation Policy
Refunds will be provided for registrations cancelled in writing and received by February 1, 2017. A cancellation penalty of $75 will apply. People substitutions can be made at any time, but will require advance written notice by February 1, 2017.

Description // To help children, teens and families who have been impacted by trauma and death, we must understand their needs and have a solid theoretical foundation for effective response and treatment methodologies. This opening session will discuss key concepts and models related to traumatic grief, and how they inform our responses, as well as core elements from research and practice-based evidence.

- Identify current issues related to childhood traumatic grief and how to talk about it with kids.
- Apply current research findings to their own practices of traumatic bereavement support.

Description // This panel includes members of the Continuum of Care: First Responder – Help Line Professional – Chaplain – Grief Support Provider. How does each best support a child through transitions? What does each person in the continuum do? What do the other members of the support team need to know about supporting the child and family?

- Identify the core needs of children, teens and families coping with the death of a friend or family member and how those needs may be influenced by the type of death.
- Identify the core and key elements that should be part of any program, service or outreach to families impacted by traumatic loss.
- Describe the incorporation of key competencies when interacting with supporting agencies as needed.
- Examine how community response to traumatic loss for underserved communities in the Seattle area may be improved and what role the professional and/or organizations may play.

Description // This panel includes counselors who have experience in grief support around suicide, natural disaster, and mass shooting. They will discuss what those types of grief do and do not have in common, as well as which nuances in therapy are most effective for which types of loss.

Hands-On Art Therapy for Traumatic Loss & Grief Healing
Description // Art with Heart staff will introduce basic concepts of using creativity with grief. A hands-on art activity to practice reflection, self-care, and healing will be done utilizing writing prompts, drawing and found poetry. The hands-on portion of the presentation can be easily replicated with youth.
Learning Objectives // This session achieves the following:
- Explain how the use of expressive arts can help youth and others suffering from traumatic grief to express feelings that might not otherwise be readily available.
- Participate in a hands-on creative expression activity that examines identity, confidence and self-esteem, and increases awareness of mind/body perspectives.
- Examine the practice of self-care through creative expression.
