Supporting Grieving Youth: An Introduction for School Counselors

The opportunity to support grieving youth can feel overwhelming and intimidating, particularly without adequate training. This introductory session is designed to help school counselors navigate how to talk with and support grieving youth following a death. Participants will learn about the grieving process, unique aspects of grief for children and teens and ideas on how to best support students as they grieve.

The following resources are from an online training offered through the PSESD on January 21, 2021. Presenters: Darren Wenz from Bridges Center for Grieving Children, Caitlin Koch from Our Treehouse, Karen Schrantz from Safe Crossings Foundation, and Kim Beeson and Jana Iwasaki from Puget Sound Educational Service District.
